Waynesville-William "Bill" Dewey Cable, age 66, of 60 Tractor Trail, died Monday, April 26, 2003 at Mission St. Joseph Health Care System. A native of Kentucky, he had lived most of his life in Haywood County. He was the son of the late William A. and Ethel Walker Cable. He was also preceded in death by a grandson, Eric Head and four brothers, Ernest, Wayne, George, and Cecil Cable. He was employed as an electrician for 33 years by the Enka Corporation, later known as B.A.S.F, before his retirement in 1992. He was a member of Cove Creek Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Cathey Queen Cable; three daughters, Glenda Head and her husband, Jonathan, of Kernersville, NC, Charlene Brinster and her husband, Michael, of Hood River, Oregon, and Susan Byrd and her husband, Jeff, of Southhaven, Mississippi; a son, Donny Cable and his wife, Ilyana, of Waynesville; two sisters, Ruby Fisher and her husband, J.C. of Kellogg, Idaho and Myrtle Berg of Spokane, Washington; a brother, Robert Cable, and his wife, Regina, of Hazelwood; six grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A celebration of his life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 29, 2004 at Cove Creek Baptist Church with Reverend Bobby Rogers and Reverend Johnny Swanger officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 12:00 until 2:00 p.m. Thursday prior to the service. Serving as pallbearers will be Bill Holbrook, Junior Jones, Doug Sisk, Rob Sims, J.B. Heatherly, Reverend Billy Ferguson, Bill Whiteside, Odell Wyatt, and Bill Burris. In lieu of flowers, memorials should be made to Cove Creek Baptist Church Building Fund, 1397 Cove Creek Road, Waynesville, NC 28785.
