William Clark

May 21, 1930 — August 26, 2012

William Thomas Clark, Jr. "Buddy", age 82, formerly of Canton, passed away on Sunday, August 26, 2012 at John F. Keever Solace Center. A native of Haywood County and prior resident of Salt Springs, Florida, he was a son of the late William Thomas and Maud Grogan Clark. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Thomasine Scarboro, Jacqueline Robinson and Charlotte Boone. Buddy was a retired United States Navy veteran having served in Korea and Vietnam. Following his career in the military, Buddy was employed with Champion International for 15 years. He was dedicated to his career in the military and was extremely detail-oriented and organized. He was devoted to sharing his Christian faith as a campground missionary. Buddy will be remembered as having never met a stranger always sharing in good conversation and having a special love for his family. He is survived by his wife, Gayle Justice Clark; one daughter, Cheryl Rathbone and her husband, Kevin, of Canton; two sons, Michael Clark and his wife, Pat, of Ocala, Florida, and Randy Clark and his wife, Janna, of Pasco, Washington; one sister, Barbara Leary and her husband, Russell, of Ocala, Florida; two step-sons, Darrell Carter and his wife, Pat, of Mars Hill, and Kevin Carter and his wife, Debbie, of Crescent City, Florida; his father-in-law, Vaughn Justice of Mars Hill; seven grandchildren, Joshua Clark, Jennifer Walker, Levi Carter, Sarah Davis, April Riddle, Talana Green, and Amanda Hamm; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 29, 2012 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Christopher Willett officiating. Burial will follow at Bon-A-Venture Cemetery on Old Clyde Road with full military honors conducted. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
