William S. “Bill” Stewart Cope, born on December 21, 1926, in Cleveland, Ohio, passed away on January 13, 2025, at the Smoky Mountain Nursing and Rehab. He lived a remarkable life marked by both academic distinction and professional success. A graduate of Purdue University, he earned degrees in both marketing and engineering illustrating his keen intellect and dedication to lifelong learning.
Bill’s journey was further distinguished by his military service, where he served as a sergeant in Japan, at the end of World War II. His time in the military shaped his character and values, instilling in him a sense of discipline that would carry into his later endeavors.
Professionally, Bill achieved significant milestones, most notably serving as Vice President in the HVAC industry. His leadership and expertise were recognized and respected by many within his field.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, William had a passion for life and enjoyed a variety of hobbies. He loved traveling with his wife, Holly Cope, with whom he shared 25 years of marriage, and was an athlete at heart, remaining active throughout his life by playing tennis and committing to regular workouts. His enthusiasm for nutrition made him a self-proclaimed guru in the field. He also nurtured a love for the performing arts, teaching ballroom dancing in college and sharing his talents as a member of a barbershop quartet.
Bill was a dedicated member of Grandview Baptist Church, where he enriched the community by singing in the choir. His contributions to his faith and community are fondly remembered by those who had the privilege of knowing him.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Holly Cope. He was preceded in death by his father, Harry Cope; mother, Helen Luke Cope; one brother, Harry Cope; and a sister, Dorothy Saxton. William “Bill” Stewart Cope leaves behind a legacy of numerous accomplishments and cherished memories among family, friends, and the communities he impacted throughout his life.
