William Mehaffey

Canton, - Ed Mehaffey, age 86 of Henson Cove Road died Friday, January 10, 2003 at Memorial Mission Hospital.

He was a native of Haywood County and was the son of the late Reverend Wesley and Delena Mease Mehaffey. He was preceded in death by his wife, Iona Sorrells Mehaffey who died in 1992, a son, Gary Dale Mehaffey who died in 1962, a sister, Hazel Mehaffey and a brother, Carl Mehaffey.

He retired from Champion International in 1979 with 43 years of service. He was a charter member of Springhill Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, Sunday School Superintendent and teacher and held numerous other positions. He was a member of the Champion Old Timers. He enjoyed his breakfast buddies, his dogs, cattle and gardening and working with Eddie Trull. These were just a few of his many interests. God had blessed him with good health and an enjoyment for doing for others.

He is survived by a daughter and her husband, Debbie and Bill Jones of Canton; a sister, Hildred Alexander of Woodburn, OR; a grandson, Eric Heatherly of Canton and a special friend, Margaret Hill.

Funeral services will be at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 15th at Springhill Baptist Church with the Reverends James Parham and Jerry Ensley officiating. Burial will follow at Springhill Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon - 2:15 p.m. at Wells Funeral Home in Canton. At other times, the family will be at the residence of Debbie Jones, 191 Barnwood Heights in the Henson Cove Community.
