Waynesville, William Lee Evans, age 77, of Boxwood Lane, passed away on Tuesday, October 21, 2014 at Haywood Regional Medical Center. Lee was born in Haywood County, the son of the late Thurman A. and Frankie Rose Evans and was also preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Gail Evans Rathbone in 1997. He retired from Dayco after 33 years service where he was employed as a machine operator. Lee loved spending time with his grandchildren and enjoyed fishing and camping. Lee was of the Baptist faith and was known to be a hard worker. He spent many years growing crops of tobacco. Lee is survived by his wife of 59 years, Ruby Fisher Evans; a daughter, Vicky Messer and her husband, Bob; sons, Ricky Evans and his wife, April and Bobby Lee Evans; sisters, Minnie "Easter" Greene and husband, Earl, and Barbara Allison; brothers, Richard Evans and wife, Blanche, Don Evans and wife, Joann, Arthur Evans and wife, Linda, Jule Evans and wife, Linda, and Junior Evans and wife, Brenda; ten grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 25, in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Bobby Rogers and Reverend Barry Willet officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 11:30 until 12:45 p.m. prior to services at the funeral home and at other times, at the home of Vicky and Bob Messer at 392 Compromise Drive.
