William Gibson

November 11, 1929 — March 22, 2008

Waynesville, William "Bud" Gibson, age 78, of 15 Nottingham Lane, died on Saturday, March 22, 2008 at the Brian Center. A native of Buncombe County, he had lived most of his life in Haywood County. He was the son of the late Richard and Nellie Davis Gibson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Charles Gibson; six brothers, Claude, Fred, Sid, Sam, Wid, and Charlie Gibson; two sisters, Lucille Green and Ruth Holt. He was a US Army veteran and a self-employed carpenter. He enjoyed rock mason work and woodworking. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Mary Ruth Gibson; four daughters, Judy Cato and her husband, Mike, of Lancaster, SC, Tina Dean, of Waycross, GA, Patricia Crawley and Loretta Childers, both of Waynesville; four sons, Randy and Danny Gibson, of Gastonia, NC, Scott Gibson Lee of GA, and Terry Gibson and his wife, Tammy, of Dallas, NC; twenty-two grandchildren; and eight great grandchild. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 26, 2008 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Daryl Hannah officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery with military services will be conducted by VFW Post 5202 and American Legion Post 47. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.
