Waynesville, William Gilmer "Gil" Henry, age 69, of 419 Thomas Park, died on Tuesday, February 24, 2009 at Haywood Regional Medical Center. A native of Macon County, he had lived most of his life in Haywood County. He was the son of the late Joe Mitchell and Martha Southard Henry and was also preceded in death by a brother, Patrick Henry and a sister, Evelyn H. Goode. Gil served as Haywood County's Clerk of Court for more than 26 years and was a former member of the Lions Club of Waynesville, co-founder of the Waynesville Antique Car Club, and a member of the Antique Tractor Club. He is survived by one daughter, Melanie Blount and her husband, Ritchie of Charlotte, NC; two granddaughters, Annagrace and Lilly Blount; a niece, Andrea Franklin of Arden, NC; and a special friend, Howard Leatherwood and his wife, Wanda, of Waynesville. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 27, 2009 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Tony Sisk officiating. Graveside services will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Elijay Cemetery in Franklin. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
