Canton – William Ray “Bill” Huffman, 89, passed away on Monday, January 14, 2019 at Silver Bluff Nursing Home.
A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, he was a son of the late Abel Sidney and Phoebe Duckett Huffman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Anna Rae Huffman. Bill was a former employee of Champion Paper Company and Stamey Roofing & Metal Company. Later, he became a partner of Stamey Roofing and Metal Company and was a member of West Canton Baptist Church. Bill was a United States Army veteran having served during the Korean Era and a life member of the Canton V.F.W. Post. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Dorothy Matthews Huffman; two daughters, Karen Huffman of the home and Kim Hardin of Candler; three sisters, Peggy Mease, Wanda Pee and Carolyn Hipps (Lonnie), all of Canton; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 18, 2019 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Jonathan Blaylock and Reverend Jerry Worley officiating. Burial will follow at Bon-A-Venture Cemetery on Old Clyde Road. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 1:45 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
The family wishes to express their appreciation to the staff of Silver Bluff Nursing Home for the care given to Bill for the past 2 ½ years.
