William Hughes

Lake Junaluska, William Bill Prince Hughes, age 59, died Thursday, April 2, 2009 at his residence surrounded by his family. Bill was born in Gadsden, Alabama and the son of Helen Prince Hughes Rice of Waynesville and the late Reverend Miles Preston Hughes, Jr. In addition to his father he is preceded in death by his stepfather, Wayne K. Rice. Bills paternal great-great grandparents were founders of Gadsden, Alabama. He was a gifted artist and musician and had a gift of making people laugh at his original puns. In addition to his mother he is survived by two sisters and two brothers: Helen Hughes Gordon and her husband, Dr. Richard Gordon and their children, Michael and Julia of Conyers, GA; Marian Hughes Sherrill and her husband, Reverend Howard �Butch� Sherrill of Greensboro, NC and their daughters Adrienne Gramberg and her husband, John, of Charleston, WV and Meredith Sherrill of Charlotte, NC; M. Preston Hughes, III and his wife, Leanore, and their children, Johathan and Christiana of Wichita, KS; Paul Lee Hughes and his wife, Lucy Downey, and their sons, Gabriel, Caleb, and Daniel of Birmingham, AL, as well as four step-brothers, Don, Clifford, Gary and Scott Rice all of Indiana. A service of Commemoration will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 5, 2009 at Garrett Hill Crest Mausoleum with Reverend Garland Young officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. prior to the service at Wells Funeral of Waynesville. Memorials may be made to Long's Chapel United Methodist Church General Fund, P.O.
