William Hunt, Iii

Arden, NC - William Riley Hunt, III passed away early morning, November 23, 2014 at his home in Arden, NC. He was surrounded by his family when he succumbed to complications of the heart and kidneys. He is survived by his wife, Patricia White Hunt; their children April Hunt Sutton, Anthony Martin Sutton, Shawn Walter Hunt, and Whitney Debrin Hunt; and their grandchildren Riley Grace Sutton, Brannon Martin Sutton, and Carter Ephraim Hunt. Born July 21, 1945 in Franklin, VA, Bill led an adventurous and ambitious life. Enlisting in the Navy at 17, he was honorably discharged in 1969. Upon leaving the Navy, he went to work for NASA at Kennedy Space Center in FL where he met his best friend, Dennis Young. Dennis's parents and brother became his foster family and greatest advocates. In 1972, he completed his Bachelors of Science in Electrical Engineering at the University of South Florida. While working on his Masters of Instrumentation at East Tennessee State University, he met his wife of 41 years, Pat. Together, they traveled the country and world both for their occupations and pleasure. Bill's love and devotion to Pat knew no bounds - she was everything to him. Bill's work history was rich. He taught high school at the beginning of his career while finishing up his masters. He was a lead project engineer at the Tobaccoville plant near Winston Salem, NC which was the largest construction project in the country at the time. He finished his career at Champion Paper Company in Canton, NC. Each place he left a legacy of accomplishments on projects that no one felt could be done. Bill never took the word no as a given, but instead, as a challenge. From work to his family, Bill did everything with extreme passion. His generosity, loyalty, and tenacity knew no limits. He was a shining example of what hard work could accomplish and loved to support those with the same beliefs. He will be greatly missed by all that loved him. Visitation will be held at Wells Funeral Home in Waynesville, NC Tuesday, November 25th from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. There will be a private funeral Wednesday, November 26th.
