William Jackson

August 6, 1929 — July 31, 2013

William Paul Jackson, passed into heaven on July 31, 2013, seven days short of his 84th birthday. Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Grayson Andrew Jackson and Effie Tabor Jackson; four brothers Clyde, Lloyd, Grady and Carroll; and an infant sister, Hazel Jackson, all of Hendersonville. He was an Army veteran and retired farmer, carpenter, meat cutter and volunteer fireman. Paul was an active member and Deacon of West Canton Baptist Church and enjoyed singing in the choir. He is survived by his wife, of 62 years, Olivia Jones Jackson; a son, Wayne Paul Jackson and his wife, Linda, of Heflin, Alabama; a daughter, Rev. Karen Jackson Lawrence and her husband, Tim, of Mill Spring, North Carolina; grandchildren, Maggie Dawn Ledford Jeffcoat of Charleston, South Carolina, William Palmer Jackson of Birmingham Alabama, Brian William Lawrence, Daniel Timothy Lawrence and Benjamin Terry Lawrence all of Columbia, South Carolina; a sister, Louise Jackson Henderson of Dana, North Carolina; special brothers and sister in Christ, Wayne and Jackie Pressley of Clyde, Charles Dellinger and Arnold Dean Jones of Charlotte, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 12:00 noon Saturday, August 3, 2013 at West Canton Baptist Church with the Reverend Jonathan Blalock and Reverend Bruce Cayton officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m. until 12:00 noon prior to the service at the church. A graveside service will be held at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Hendersonville at 3:00 p.m. with the Reverend Wallace Britt, Reverend Jerry Warren and grand nephew, Reverend Travis Scruggs officiating. Military honors will be conducted. Pallbearers will be Dennis and Dean Jackson, Doug Henderson, Bill Nock, Jim Smith, Reverend Travis Scruggs, Harley Scruggs, Arnold Dean Jones and Charles Dellinger. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Haywood EMS, Clyde Fire Department members, and the men's Sunday school class at West Canton Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers and in Paul's memory, memorials may be made to Haywood County EMS, 215 North Main Street, Waynesville, NC 28786; Clyde Fire Department, P.O. Box 552, Clyde, NC 28721 or to West Canton Baptist Church, 75 Lowe Street, Canton, NC 28716.
