William Johnson

November 28, 1916 — February 6, 2003

Canton-William Carroll Johnson-86, formerly of Johnson Drive died Thursday, February 6, 2003 at Silver Bluff Nursing Home.

He was the son of the late George Henry and Mamie Smathers Johnson and was the husband of the late Evelyn Smathers Johnson who died in 1996. He was also preceded in death by a brother Charles Smathers Johnson and a sister Frances Deaton Brown. He was a native of Haywood County and was a United States Army Veteran of World War II having served in the European Theater. He was a self-employed long haul truck driver for many years.

He is survived by one step-daughter, Adrienne Sterchi of Knoxville, TN, and a sister-in-law, Frankie Johnson of Canton, one nephew, James M. Deaton of Canton; five nieces; Theressa Cabe of Clackamas, OR., Mary Frances Holland of Parrottsville, TN., Irma Morgan of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Jan Johnson Williams of Salisbury, N.C. and Jean Johnson Stahl of Waynesville, N.C.

Private services will be held.

Memorials may be made to one's own favorite charity.
