Waynesville-William Kelley Braswell, M.D., age 61, of Gingko Lane, died on Tuesday, December 26, 2006 in Des Moines, IA. He was born in Birmingham, AL and was the son of Anne Stubbs Braswell of Miami, FL and the late Julian Heath Braswell. Dr. Braswell was a graduate of the University of Florida and the University of Miami Medical School. He served his residency at Bowman Gray Hospital in Winston-Salem and began his practice as a general surgeon in July 1982 at Midway Medical Center where he practiced for over 20 years. He was currently serving a short-term assignment at the VA Hospital in Des Moines, IA. A loving husband, father, grandfather and friend, Kelley's interests and passions were vast and varied. He was a sailor and rollerblader, a musician and lover of poetry, an outdoorsman and pilot, a surgeon and explorer of the world. He lived his life with zeal and integrity, indulging in all that life had to offer. Surviving in addition to his mother, is his wife, Phyllis McCarroll Braswell; two daughters, Jennifer Winston Braswell and her husband, Jim McNicholas, of Tblisi, GA, Elizabeth Anne Braswell of Washington, DC; one son, Patrick Benton Braswell and his wife, Karen, of Asheville; one stepdaughter, Meredith McCarroll and her husband, Jeff Christmas, of Knoxville, TN; one stepson, Matt McCarroll and his wife, Jennifer, of Carbondale, IL; one sister, Julie Anne Braswell, of Ocala, FL; one brother, Jack Braswell, of Miami, FL; two grandchildren, Ada Grace McCarroll and Jasper McCarroll-Christmas; and was expecting two additional grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 31, 2006 at the Memorial Chapel of Lake Junaluska with Reverend Pete Tolleson officiating.
