William Kemp

March 12, 1928 — May 28, 2013

William Harper Kemp, 85, of Asheville, went home to be with the Lord on May 28, 2013 in the comfort of his home. A native of Asheville, he was the eldest son of the late James and Rosa Lee Lance Kemp. "Sweet William" retired from Southern and Norfolk Southern Railroad after 44 years as an Engineer. He served his country in the US Navy during World War II. Bill had a true servant's heart and was devoted to his family and church, the Fellowship Freewill Baptist Church. He enjoyed gardening, working crossword puzzles and watching the Atlanta Braves.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Barbara Hensley Kemp; brother, David Kemp, grandson, Sidney Patton; nephew, Tommy Green and great-nephew Cody Day.
He is survived by his daughters, Susan McCarson, Beverly (Clint) Kirkley, Sandra (Richard) Lindsey and Cheryl Kemp; siblings, Betty Wilson, Marilyn Green, Jim Kemp and Nancy Day; grandchildren, Amanda White, Sara Patton, Richie Lindsey and Ashley Letterman; great-grandchildren, Jessica (Oscar) Palacios, Jamie Berry, Elizabeth Kennedy, Destany, Nathan and Zackary Lindsey and great-great grandchildren, Ayden Berry and Mia Palacios.
Bill felt blessed to be cared for by Amanda White and Alejo Palacios, the best nurses he ever had.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, June 1st from 12:00PM -1:00 PM with a Funeral Service at 1:00 PM in the Moore Funeral Home at Forest Lawn Chapel of Faith, with Pastor Charlie Chandler officiating. Interment will follow at Pisgah View Memorial Park, Candler.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to CarePartners Foundation, PO Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28813.
