William Lane

Canton – William Daniel “Bill” Lane, 92, of the Bethel Community, passed away on Thursday, December 23, 2021 at Charles George VA Medical Center.

Bill was a native of Loudon, Tennessee and a son of the late Daniel and Flora Lane.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy Agnes Giles Lane; second wife, Betty Pearson Lane; a brother, Gerald; and two sisters, Pauline and Lorrine.  Bill retired as a Staff Sergeant with the United States Army and was awarded a purple heart.  He also retired from Haywood Regional Medical Center as chief lab technician and was a member of Bethel Baptist Church and Sonoma Lodge #472 AF&AM.

He is survived by two daughters, Diane Lane and Teresa Goodson (David), both of Waynesville; and one sister, Doshia Wilson of Loudon, Tennessee.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, December 31, 2021 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Dr. Roy Kilby and Reverend Dr. G. David Russell officiating.  Burial will follow at Bethel Community Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 10:30 until 1:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
