William Liner

Waynesville, William Ray Liner, age 89, of Palmer Road, passed away on Saturday, January 23, 2016 at Charles George VA Medical Center. A native of Haywood County, and the son of the late Sam and Clara Snyder Liner. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Jeanne Schimp Liner, who died in 2011; a daughter, Jeanne Liner Hipps; a brother, and three sisters. He retired from Dayco as a Supervisor. William was a United States Navy Veteran who served in World War II on the USS Colorado and received two Purple Hearts. He was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans. William is survived by a son, Tim Liner of Waynesville; two brothers, Gene and George Liner; and a grandson, Wes Hipps and his wife, Andrea. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 29, 2016 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Gary Putnam officiating. Military Honors will follow. Private burial will be at Garrett Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
