William Martin, Sr.

Clyde-William John Martin, Sr., age 90, of 385 Woodland Church Drive, died on Tuesday, June 28, 2005 at Haywood Regional Medical Center. A native of Union City, New Jersey, he was the son of the late William John and Nora Howe Martin. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his first wife, Edna Schneider Martin, who died in 1991 and a sister, Catherine Martin. He was owner of Duffy's Floor Covering and Edna Realty and a member of St. John's Catholic Church. He enjoyed working in real estate, boating, camping, gardening, swimming, and visiting the casinos. He was also an avid traveler. He is survived by his wife, Ina Ledford Martin; six daughters, Judith Steffen and Reimar of Waynesville, Mary Ann Lennon and Bill of New Orleans, Helene Barnes and Vernon of Martinez, GA, Margaret "Peggy" Hyatt and George of Aiken, SC, Linda Rainforth and Maxwell of Fairfield, IA, and Patricia Antonicelli and Robert of Clyde; three sons, William John Martin, Jr. and Hazel of Clyde, Edward Martin and Sherri of Leicester, NC, and James Martin and Kim of Atlanta, GA; 13 grandchildren, Christopher Lennon, Eric Steffen, James Martin, Jr., Elissa Mount, Lorraine Garcia, Nathalie Santos, Danny Lennon, Martin Steffen, Evan Martin, Rachel and Branson Hyatt, Patrick and Grace Antonicelli; 4 great grandchildren; 11 stepchildren; and a host of step grandchildren and step great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 2, 2005 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Father Frank Doyle officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00 until 12:50 p.m. prior to the service. Memorials may be made to Haywood Regional Medical Center Hospice, 560 Leroy George Drive, Clyde, NC 28721.
