William Millar

March 17, 1928 — December 20, 2014

Waynesville, William Imber Millar 86, passed away after two years of debilitating health. He was born March 17, 1928, in Waynesville, NC, the first baby born in the Haywood County Hospital. He was the son of the late Henry Frecker Millar and Jesse (Keller) Millar and was also preceded in death by his brother, Bob Millar and nephew, David Millar. Bill graduated from Duke University with a law degree, as did his father. He served in the US Navy during the Korean War. After the war, he and his wife, Mary Shusler Millar moved to Waynesville from San Diego, CA. Bill was married previously to Mary Shusler, Margie Leatherwood and Mary Moody. Bill spent this past Thanksgiving with his daughter and her family in Tennessee and also enjoyed camping with his daughter. He is survived by a daughter, Kathryn (Jim) Hodge and her family, Jessica Barnes, Kristy Lacy and Patrick Hodge; son Jim Millar and his four children, Kate, Luke, Emerson and Alta; son Scott (Mary) and Hank Millar; stepchildren, Troy and John Leatherwood, Phil and Hyatt Moody and Susan Millar Miller; Five great grandchildren, and a niece and nephew, Billy Millar and Patience Smith. The family will celebrate Bill's life with a Memorial Service at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 14, 2015 at the First United Methodist Church of Waynesville with Reverend Kelley Jones officiating. Bagpiper E.J. Jones will be performing from 3:30 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. prior to the services on the church lawn. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, 425 Wilder Street, Morristown, TN. 37813 for church camp ministries.
