William Mills

Waynesville, William Louie Mills, 84, of Club Knoll Avenue, passed away on Monday, September 26, 2016 at The Homestead. A native of Haywood County, he was the son of the late William and Mable Mitchell Mills. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Harold Mills; a sister, Mattie Jones; grandsons, Ethan Mills and Justin Hand; and daughter-in-law, Jennifer Mills. He was a 1950 graduate of Waynesville Township High School and later served as an Aviation Electronic Technician in the US Navy with the rank of Petty Officer 3rd Class. He was employed as the Data Processer Manager at Dayco, retiring with 25-years-service. Louie was a faithful charter member of Rehoboth Baptist Church where he served as deacon, Sunday-School Director, teacher, custodian and treasurer. Currently a member of Allens Creek Baptist Church, he also was an After School Bible Club Teacher at Central and Lake Junaluska Elementary Schools. Louie dearly loved his family and his greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren. His friendly and loving presence will be missed by all who knew him. Louie is survived by his wife of 60 years, Patsy Holder Mills; four sons, Jeff Mills (Teresa) of Raleigh, Scott Mills of Pine Knot, Kentucky, Chris Mills (Rebecca) of Hendersonville and Tim Mills (Beth) of Easley, South Carolina; a sister, Ruby Lee Edwards, of Waynesville; three brothers, Richard Mills of Dallas, North Carolina, Gerry Mills of Stanley, North Carolina and John Mills of Iron Station, North Carolina; 11 grandchildren, William Louie II, Holder, Isaac, Ivy, Samuel, Logan, Sara, Alexandra, and Steven Mills and Maggie and Jeff Powell, Jr. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 29, 2016 at Allens Creek Baptist Church with Reverend Roy Houston and Reverend Tony Crisp officiating. Burial will follow at Rocky Branch Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery with military honors. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers as well as Jeff Powell, Jr. and John Jagt. The family will receive friends from 12:00 until 2:00 p.m. prior to services at the church.
