William Penley

William "Carroll" Penley, 88, of Asheville passed away on Sunday, February 4, 2018 after a long struggle with dementia. He was the son of the late Eugene and Ruby Brigman Penley. After graduating from Weaverville High School, he attended Asheville Biltmore College. During the Korean War he served in the US Army and went on to retire from the Citizen Times. He loved the outdoors, especially camping at the beach.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Frances Branks and Annie Bridgewater and brothers, Bud and Jim Penley.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Dorothy Holcombe Penley; daughters, Sharon Gee and Melissa Self; son, Jeffrey Penley; granddaughters, Teresa Justice; grandsons, Joel and Nicholas Penley; great grandchildren, Kadence Penley and Damien Justice.
The family would like to thank everyone at Stone Creek Rehab Center and CarePartners Keever Solace Center for the love and care he received there.
A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00pm on Wednesday, February 7 in the Chapel at Moore Funeral Home at Forest Lawn with Rev. Joe Yelton officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Candler.
