Candler – William David “Bill” Pless, 78, passed away on Tuesday, July 6, 2021 at Mission Memorial Campus.
Bill was a native and lifelong resident of Buncombe County and a son of the late Moody and Blanche Grogan Pless. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Patricia Pless Welborn and husband, Bob. Bill was a member of the North Carolina National Guard, worked at International Paper for 41 years, and was a member of Ridgeway Baptist Church. He loved his mountains and trout fishing, digging ginseng, and listening to the music of his mountains, bluegrass. Bill sang in the Ridgeway choir and was a member of the Ridgeway Boys Quartet.
He was survived by his wife of 55 years, Linda Gaddy Pless; two daughters, Teresa Pressley and husband, Trevor, and Genell Allmond and husband, Timothy; one son, David Pless and wife, Carrie, all of Candler; seven grandchildren, Dillon, Dalton, Selah, Noah, Maggie, Noble, and Cana; a nephew, Michael Welborn and wife, Brook, of Greenville, South Carolina; one niece, Michelle Hill and husband, David and their children, Daniel, Jacob, and Caroline, of Greer, South Carolina.
A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, July 9, 2021 at Ridgeway Baptist Church with the Reverend Jack W. Collins officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 2:45 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Ridgeway Baptist Church Cemetery Maintenance Fund, 525 Old 19/23 Hwy., Candler, NC 28715.
