William Edward Rex

William Edward Rex, aged 92, passed away on May 26, 2024. He is predeceased by his father, William McCune Rex, his mother, Jean Greenshields Rex, and his son, William Timothy Rex.

Bill is survived by his wife of fifty-nine years, Judy; his children, Dana Jean McKee, Edward Marshall Rex (Sarah), and Victoria An Rex Shanahan; his grandchildren, Conor McKee (Amber), Kelsey McKee, Atticus Dewitt Rex, and Harriet An Rex; and his brother, Robert McKay Rex (Isa).

Bill was born on November 27, 1931, in Winnetka, Illinois. He graduated from the Governor Dummer Academy and Dartmouth College in 1954. He served as an officer in the United States Air Force for three years. Bill was a member of the New York Stock Exchange, United States Seniors Golf Association, Meadowbrook Hunt Club, the Board of Directors of the Sawgrass Country Club, and Laurel Ridge Country Club.

After retiring from the New York Stock Exchange in 1987, he and Judy moved to Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, where they lived for twenty years. In 2020, they moved to Waynesville, North Carolina, and eventually to the Deerfield Retirement Community in Asheville, North Carolina.

If only there were more Bill Rexes in the world, we would have a more peaceful place. He spent his time enjoying his family, golf, traveling, entertaining friends, and sitting quietly outside with a scotch and water in hand, enjoying the mountain view. He lived his life convinced that he was the luckiest person in the world.
