William Rich

Waynesville, William Houston "Speedy" Rich, age 88, passed away on Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at The Homestead. A native of Haywood County William was the son of the late Reverend Houston D. and Carrie Lanning Rich. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Eva Lee Rich, who died in 2007; two sisters; three brothers; a granddaughter; and son-in-law. Speedy was a man of simple tastes. He enjoyed his mechanic work at Barber's Orchard, spending time with his family and camping at Lake Chatuge. Speedy is survived by two daughters, Mary Ann Hendrix, and her husband, Roger and Nora Greene, and her husband, Mike, all of Waynesville; three sons, William Thomas Rich, and his wife, Eyvonne, of Clyde, Charles David Rich, and his wife, Dorothy, of Balsam and Ricky Ray Rich; one sister, Lucy Best, of Clyde; one brother, Leroy Rich, of Waynesville; and thirteen grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and many loving nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 2, 2017 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Kenny Banks and Reverend Phillip Wyatt officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
