William Talley

Canton-William Hershel "Sugar Babe" Talley-76, of 5 Locust Street, died Wednesday, April, 9, 2003 at Haywood Regional Medical Center.

He was the son of the late John R. and Effie Carpenter Talley and was also preceded in death by his 1st wife, Hattie Mae Brookshire Talley who died in 1976. He retired from Champion International with 45 years of service.

He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Geneva R. Talley, two daughters, Mary Jane Schwanewede of Clyde, Joyce Stepp of Canton, two step-daughters, Jean Murray of Canton, Wanda McMahan of Maggie Valley, one son, Jim Talley of Canton, one step-son, Larry Rogers of Canton, five sisters, Glady Ramey, Margaret Chastain, Pearl Carpenter, Barbara Smith and Hazel Ayers, all of Georgia, 18 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 11, 2003 at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Homes with Reverend Jerry Ensley officiating. Burial will follow at Bon-A-Venture Cemetery on Newfound Road. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
