William Kiah "Bill" Thompson, Sr., age 82, passed away on Monday, January 13, 2014 at Silver Bluff Nursing Home. A native of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Theodore and Georgia Cook Thompson. He retired from Champion International in 1994 with 40 years of service. Bill was a member of Morning Star United Methodist Church and showed his love of his church by singing in the choir and holding many offices. After retiring from Champion, Bill worked at Wells Funeral Home. He was a United States Air Force veteran. Bill was a member of the Gideon International – Haywood East Camp. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Jane Rhodarmer Thompson; a son, William K. "Buster" Thompson, Jr., and his wife, Ruth, of Cullowhee; a daughter, Betsy Stephens and her husband, David, of Concord, five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Doug Love and Reverend Dr. Bert Blomquist officiating. Burial will follow at Morning Star Community Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service. Memorials may be made to Morning Star Cemetery Fund, P.O.
