William Michael John "Mike" Walker

William Michael John “Mike” Walker was born on February 23, 1939 in Eccleshall, Staffordshire, England and died peacefully on January 21, 2024 at Emerald Ridge Center in Asheville, NC.  He was 84.

Mike served in the British Army, was a gifted soccer player and coach and loved his job as a teacher and then principal of a primary school.

Upon moving to the US in 1989, Mike became a US Citizen, was employed as a bellman at the Grove Park Inn and became enthusiastic about race-walking, winning many medals in the senior games.

He was a faithful member of The Rock Church.

He is survived by his wife, Jackie; son, Mick; son-in-law, Tim Mason; brothers and sisters-in-law, Betsy Keen, Jim and Nancy Creel, Bill and Cherie Creel and several nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Amy Walker-Mason in 2022.

A memorial service will be held 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 27, 2024 at The Rock Church, 273 Monte Vista Road, Candler, NC.
