William Ward

Candler- William Richard Ward, age 59, died on Tuesday, June 9, 2009 at his residence. A native of Haywood County, and the son of Violet Murr Ward and the late William Glenn Ward. Richard graduated from Canton High School in 1967 and Gardner Webb University in 1972 with a major in English and a minor in Music. He taught English at Sumpter High School in Sumpter, SC. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. In addition to his mother, he is survived by a sister, Glena Stiles and her husband, Ward, of Candler and two nieces, Meredith Stiles, of Chicago, IL and Laurel Stiles, of Morganton, NC. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 12, 2009 at Bon-A-Venture Cemetery, Newfound Road with the Reverend Thomas Kemp and Reverend Kevin Moore officiating. Memorials may be made to Mountainhouse, 225 East Chestnut Street, Asheville, NC 28801. Wells Funeral Home of Canton is in charge of arrangements.
