William "Wick" Lee Grunwell

Sylva, William Grunwell, 76, passed away on Friday, May 5, 2023, at Mission Hospital.

A native of Rockingham County, he was the son of the late William T. and Marie Butler Grunwell.  He was also preceded in death by a brother, David Grunwell.  William was a General Contractor.  In his free time, he enjoyed tennis, hiking, and helping friends with projects.  William especially enjoyed craft beer and spending time with his sons.  He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in Vietnam.

William is survived by two sons, Nathaniel Grunwell (Candace Morgan), of Sylva and Kris Grunwell, of Waynesville; five grandchildren, Carla, Maya, October, Shiloh, and Jules Grunwell.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 13, 2023 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Josh Mashburn officiating.  The family will receive friends from 12:30 until service time at the funeral home.
