William Woody

Waynesville-William Wils Woody, age 71, of White Oak Road, died Wednesday, July 16, 2003 at Haywood Regional Medical Center.

A native of Cocke County, Tennessee, he was the son of the late James L. and Bertha Banks Woody. He was also preceded in death by five brothers, Ammon, Frank, J.C., A.L., and Thomas Dewey Woody; one half sister, Ida; and two half brothers, Creed and Hugh Ector Woody. He was a member of White Oak Baptist Church, and he loved woodworking, gardening, and his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Marlene Hunter Woody; one daughter, Rebecca Woody Pressley and her husband, Joseph, of Maggie Valley; four sons, Stanley Woody and his wife, Barbara, of Crane, Texas, Julius Dennis Woody and his wife, Lynne M., of Dallas, NC, Tommy Woody and his wife, Les, and Jason Brian Woody and his wife, Heather, both of Waynesville; four sisters, Lottie Ensley of Dandridge, TN, Ollie Belle Hannah and Patricia Hannah, both of Lexington, NC, and Barbara Hannah of Clyde; two half sisters, Artie and Kariene, both of Dandridge, TN; two brothers, Crawford Woody, of Waynesville and Robert Lee Woody of Belmont, NC; one half brother, John Lewis Woody of Winston Salem, NC; six grandchildren, Nikki, Andi, Jennifer, and Leia Woody, Courtney Nix and Lindsey Pressley; one great granddaughter, Katilyn Woody.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 19, 2003 at White Oak Baptist Church with Reverend Gary Putnam and Burton Phillips officiating. Burial will follow at White Oak Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. on Friday, July 18, 2003 at the funeral home where the body will remain until placed in the church thirty minutes prior to the service. Pallbearers will be Kelley Williams, Larry Phillips, Joseph Pressley, Kim Hayes, and Robbie and James Woody.
