William "Bill" Huskey

Canton - William Anderson “Bill” Huskey, Jr., 92, of the Bethel Community passed away on Thursday, February 23, 2023 at his residence.

Bill was a native of Swain County and lived in Haywood County most of his life.  He was the son of the late William A. Huskey and Vernie B. Huskey.  He was also preceded in death by a son, Gary Huskey; a grandson, Cory Huskey; and two sisters, Rubye Harkins and Jennie Mills.

Bill retired from Champion International with 35 years of service.  Bill was a member of the #20 machine start-up team in 1958 and ended his career as general day supervisor in 1987.  He was a United States Marine veteran serving from 1948 – 1952 during the Korean War attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant.  Bill was an active member of Riverside Baptist Church participating in the Ramp Building Ministry of the church and he worked with the Disaster Relief of North Carolina.

He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Louise W. Huskey; a son, Terry Huskey and his wife, Jane; daughter-in-law, Debbie Huskey; three grandchildren, Gina Lester and her husband, Ethan, Wes Huskey, and Eric Huskey and his wife, Dana; two great-grandchildren, Meredith Lester and MacKenzie Huskey; sister, Emma Mashburn and her husband, J. L. and a brother; Darrel Huskey and his wife, Vickie.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 26, 2023 at Riverside Baptist Church with the Reverend Steve Frazier and Reverend Dr. Mike Odom officiating.  Burial will follow at Crawford/Ray Memorial Gardens.  The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 2:45 p.m. prior to the service at the church.

The family wishes to extend thanks to Haywood Hospice and nurse Veronica Coley.
