Wilma Burgess

Waynesville, Wilma J. Burgess, age 68, of Lorraine Drive, passed away on Saturday, February 5, 2011 at Haywood Regional Medical Center. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Dexter and Cora Lee Rathbone Greene. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Marion Burgess, who died in 1989 and a son, Randy Burgess. A former employee of the Maggie Valley Country Club and the Inn at Lake Junaluska, she retired in 1994. Wilma was an avid flower gardener and a loving mother and grandmother. She is survived by a son, Michael Burgess, of Waynesville; three daughters, Cindy Poulin and Sue Brooks, both of Waynesville and Brenda Schantz and her husband, Terry, of Allentown, Pennsylvania; two sisters, Mary Owen (Wilma's twin sister) and her husband, Medford, of Waynesville and Geneva Toler and her husband, Frank, of Leesburg, Georgia; two brothers, Earl Greene and his wife, Delores, of Waynesville and Jarvis Greene and his wife, Sue, of Geneva, Alabama; ten grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren; and her beloved dog, Friskie. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 10, 2011 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Dale Roberts officiating. Burial will follow at Sugar Cove Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
