Wilma Jean Teague Chambers, age 70, passed away on Thursday, December 27, 2012, at Smoky Mountain Health and Rehabilitation Center. A native of Buncombe County, she had resided in Haywood County most of her life and was the daughter of the late Fred and Nellie Jones Teague. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Eva Prestwood. She was a graduate of Leicester High School, Class of 1961 where she played basketball. She retired from BASF as a nylon operator with 28 years of service. She was a dedicated member of Laurel Grove Baptist Church. Wilma enjoyed sports of all kinds. She was a loyal fan of the Pisgah Bears attending as many games as possible. She also enjoyed traveling with her husband, especially going to NASCAR races. Wilma will be remembered for being a loving, caring wife, mother and friend and a dedicated Christian. She is survived by her husband of 38 years, Robert "Peanut" Chambers; a daughter Jo Nell Miller of Gastonia; a sister, Reva Swayer and her husband, Jack, of Swannanoa; two brothers, Leonard Teague and his wife, Susan of Ohio and Denver Teague and his wife, Mabel, of Knoxville, Tennessee; two grandchildren, David Hudson and Anna Hawley and her husband, Bobby; a great-grandson, Noah Hudson; a brother-in-law, Wilson Chambers and his wife, Lillian; a sister-in-law, Louise Haney; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, December 31, 2012 at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Jack Scott officiating. Burial will follow at Gwyn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00 Noon until 1:45 p.m. prior to the service.
