Waynesville-Wilma Pauline Gunter Hurley, age 76, of Allens Creek Road, died Tuesday, February 17, 2004 at Haywood Regional Medical Center.
A native of Jackson County, she has lived most of her life in Haywood County. She was the daughter of the late John L. and Oberia Smathers Gunter. She was also preceded in death by six brothers, Lewis, Lloyd, Clyde, Bob, Coy, and Hughey Gunter and one sister, Faye Hawkins. She retired in 1989 from Wellco after 45 years employment. She was a member of Grandview Baptist Church and loved to spend time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by a son, Eddie Gunter, and his wife, Vicky, of Waynesville; three sisters, Irene Turner and Velma Gaddis of Waynesville and Ilene Vicarini of Baltimore, Maryland; one brother, Floyd Gunter, of Waynesville; two grandchildren, Chrystal Shelton and her husband, Andy, and Heath Gunter; and two great grandchildren, Ali and Cameron Shelton.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 20, 2004 at Grandview Baptist Church with Reverend Dr. Jack Roberts and pastor Kent Lowdermilk officiating. Burial will follow at Crawford Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. on Friday prior to services at the church. Serving as pallbearers will be John Brown, Kyle Cook, Brian Davis, Shawn Mathis, and Kenny and Adam Gunter.
