Wilma Shackleton

Waynesville, Wilma McCracken Gordon Shackleton, age 94, passed away on Friday, December 26, 2014 at Sanford Memorial Hospital. A native of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late William Crawford and Mollie Ferguson McCracken. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, William Homer Gordon and second husband, William Shackleton. Wilma is survived by four children, Billy Gordon and his wife, Sandy, of Burlington, North Carolina, James Shackleton of Sanford, North Carolina, David Shackleton and his wife, Dianne, of Lawrenceville, Georgia, and Janet Shackleton-Smith of Mebane, North Carolina; a brother, William McCracken of Waynesville, and seven grandchildren. Wilma was a homemaker and worked at Wellco during WWII making boots for the troops. She also did volunteer work for Hospice. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 31, 2014 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Mike Leslie and Mr. Chester Sorrells officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Ninevah Baptist Church, 931 Country Club Drive, Waynesville, N.C. An on-line memorial register is available at "Obituaries" at "www.wellsfuneralhome.com"
