Wilma Singleton

November 1, 1923 — February 9, 2005

Canton-Wilma Rogers Singleton, age 81, died Wednesday, February 9, 2005 at Silver Bluff Nursing Home. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, she was a daughter of the late James Mitchell and Ellen Bramlett Rogers and was the wife of the late Ira Porter Singleton, Sr., who died in 1987. She was also preceded in death by sons; Wayne Singleton who died in 1981 and Ira Porter Singleton, Jr., who died in 2002. Mrs. Singleton was a member of Sunny Point Baptist Church and a Sunday school teacher for many years. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and loved to garden and can. She spent her last years loving and caring for her great-grandchildren and her pet cat "Sissy". She is survived by two daughters Judy Lanning and her husband Lawrence and Pat Williams all of Canton, two daughters-in-law Jimmie Singleton and Carolyn Singleton, both of Canton, one sister, Irene Rollins of Greenville, SC, 7 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 12, 2005 at Sunny Point Baptist Church. Reverend James Roberts and Reverend Howard Pless will officiate. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday at the church. Memorials may be made to Sunny Point Baptist Church, 132 Sunny Point Drive, Canton, NC 28716. Wells Funeral Homes & Cremation Services of Canton is in charge of arrangements.
