Zane Hall

Zane Grey Hall, age 86, died Saturday, April 1, 2006 at Silver Bluff Nursing Home. He was a native and lifelong resident of Haywood County and the son of the late George and Essie King Hall. A United States Navy veteran, he served on the USS Marblehead during World War II. He retired from Champion International with 45 years of service and was a member of Canton First Baptist Church. Zane was a charter member of the Canton Lions Club, a volunteer at Haywood Regional Medical Center and an avid golfer. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Anne Walsh. In addition to his wife of 64 years, Terry Cathey Hall, he is survived by two daughters, Cathy Walsh and her husband, Harold, and Karen Hall all of Canton; a sister, Midge Brasch, and a grandson, Jack Walsh and wife, Michele, of Decatur, GA. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 4, 2006 at the Canton chapel of Wells Funeral Homes & Cremation Services with the Reverend Dr. Rick Gosnell officiating. The family will receive friends from 9:45 until 11:00 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Manna Food Bank, 627 Swannanoa River Road, Asheville, NC 28805 or to the Anne Walsh Memorial Playground Fund, c/o Canton First Baptist Church, 74 Academy Street, Canton, NC 28716.
