Zeffie Messer

June 8, 1923 — September 5, 2014

Waynesville, Zeffie Sutton Messer, age 91, passed away on Friday, September 5, 2014 at her daughter's residence. A native of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Richmond Pierson Sutton and Nettie Rhodarmer Sutton. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Audrey James Messer, who died in 1998. Zeffie loved her Lord, her family, and gardening. Zeffie is survived by daughters, Brenda Myers and her husband, John, of Canton and Judith Ann "Judy" Payne and her husband, Alfred, of Greeneville, Tennessee; son, James L. Messer and his wife, Maxine, of Webster; grandchildren, Dwayne and Dennis Messer, Loretta Fowler, Johnna Allen, James Payne, Vina Ball, and Bryan Myers; fourteen great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, September 8, 2014 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Pastor Bryan Myers, Pastor Tim Sheridan, and Pastor Ed Couser officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. prior to services at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Haywood Regional Medical Center Hospice, 560 Leroy George Drive, Clyde, NC 28721.
