Zemery Messer

Canton-Zemery Floyd Messer-78, of 2454 Asheville Hwy, died Thursday, December 12, 2002 at Haywood Regional Medical Center after a valiant fight with cancer.

He was a native of Haywood County where he lived most of his life and was a son of the late Pink T. and Maude Hunter Messer. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Roy Messer and a sister, Geneva West.

He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Verna Wright Messer, one daughter, Vicki Gass and her husband Roy of Asheville, two sisters, Maggie Smith of Waynesville and Nettie Mitchell of Hampton, VA, one brother, Pat Messer of Hampton, VA, two grandchildren, Diana Slagle and her husband Dana of Asheville and Danny Gass and his wife Maria of Etowah and 4 great-grandchildren, Bradley and Nicholas Slagle and Kristen and Hailey Gass and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 14, 2002 at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Homes with Reverend Virgil Holloway officiating. Burial will follow at Ridgeway Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. At other times, the family will be at the home, 2454 Asheville Hwy, Canton, NC 28716.
