Waynesville, Bobby Joe McClure, age 86, passed away on June 19, 2021 at Mission Hospital after a period of declining health.
Bobby Joe grew up in Haywood County, the son of the late Wayne Sylvester McClure and Mary Whitner McClure. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Janet Gail Sutton. He married his sweetheart, Bobbie Jean Sparks McClure, and their 66-year union brought two sons, David (Debbie) McClure and Steve (Karen) McClure, into the world. Five grandchildren, Kristen (Johnny) James, Matt (Cortney) McClure, Molly (David) Stanley, Sadie McClure, and Isley McClure; and two great-grandchildren, Holland and Elizabeth, completed the family.
Bobby Joe was a 1953 graduate of Waynesville Township High School and attended Western Carolina University Business School. This successful entrepreneur was the owner / operator of By-Pass Power Equipment Company and previously worked at Dayco Corporation and the U.S. Postal Service. His broad skills served him well as a building contractor and real estate developer. A proud member of Hazelwood Baptist Church for 65 years, he served as deacon, usher, and on numerous committees. Bobby Joe also served in the North Carolina National Guard. He enjoyed golf, raising cattle on the farm, and the excitement of coaching Little League baseball. Bobby Joe lived a full life and will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and community.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 22, 2021 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Homes with Reverend Tim Lolley officiating. Entombment will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
