Waynesville, Toni Jo Baxter Mullany, 81, passed away at Haywood Regional Medical Center, May 23, 2022, surrounded by loved ones and peacefully elevated to her heavenly home.
A native of Iredell County, she was a daughter of the late Fred and Louise Towell Baxter. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Richard Mullany, who died in 2009; daughter, Elizabeth Mullany; and a son, John Benjamin Mullany.
She is survived by a brother Bill Baxter (Almedia) of Statesville, North Carolina; grandchildren Joey, Avian, and Summer Mullany; dear friends, Linda Arnold, Cheryl Russell, Ginny McNair, Bill and Beth Snyder and Jackson, her faithful furry companion.
Toni was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church of Waynesville. She was a member of Faith Link Class and Healing Prayer Group. Toni volunteered for the Good Samaritan Clinic and Haywood Restoration House. Her deep faith and commitment to Christ were central to her life’s work as a teacher, social worker, volunteer, and guardian ad litem. Toni used her voice to speak for those who had none, especially children and the poor. While a social worker her license plate was "Guarddog".
A celebration of Toni’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday May 31, 2022, at First United Methodist Church of Waynesville with Reverend Keith Turman officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church and designated to the Pigeon Community Center or the Friendship House, P.O. Box 838, Waynesville, NC 28786.
The care of Mrs. Mullany has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville.
